We have an ageing population.

People are living longer in part due to improved medical care, safer working conditions and healthier lifestyles.

However, many businesses and organisations have not adapted their products and services to address this shift. Older people are often left out of the development process for services and solutions on which they rely.

This challenge aims to bring large businesses and organisations together with innovative SMEs in the North of Tyne area to focus on developing solutions that will support older people to live happier, healthier and more joyful lives.

What we're looking for

We're looking to work with SMEs who have an idea or solution to challenges faced in the following areas:

  • How to support older people to live independently for longer, in homes that can meet their needs as they age
  • How to support an older workforce so that those who want to work in their later years can do so and are supported, their knowledge valued and utilised and new skills developed
  • How we can support an older generation to do more of the activities that bring them joy, such as for example, sport, hobbies, socialising, travel and tourism and community activities.

What support will the business recieve?

If you submit an idea and are successful in gaining a place on the programme, you can be eligible for:

  • £5000 in grant funding, paid up front with no match funding required, to finance the development and testing of your idea
  • Inclusion on a six-month accelerator programme to support the rapid development and testing of your idea
  • Introductions to potential clients and 'challenge supporters' - large regional organisations who want to tackle the problems in this challenge and who can support the developmemt and scaling of your idea.

Sorry, this Challenge is now closed for applications.
